Saturday September 15 - Travel to Montreux

I said good bye to Paul at Yverdon-les-Bains staton and got into the train to Fribourg, leaving him to take the train to St. Gallen. As my train pulled out he came in and sat down with me. It seems the trains towards Neuchatel were all cancelled so he decided to go via Bern. I heard later on that he had made it to Zuba Teck at St. Gallen and his credit card still worked.

I had a leisurely journey via Fribourg, Romont, Bulle and Montbovon to Montreux. The weather was fine and the journey through pleasant countryside - including the drop down into Montreux itself. The walk to the apartment is not very long but it was hot and I was carrying my bag.

We discussed a place for Mary's birthday lunch and took the funicular up to Glion where there is a good restaurant right above the Rocher de Naye (rack) railway station station. We had a pleasant table with a good view for a boozy lunch. The hunting season is now open and we both had venison, proceeded by Aigle tomatoes and washed down with an Aigle Pinot Noir.

The funicular is very convenient to get to Glion and the trolley bus takes us right to the bottom station.

Every so often we hear a steam whistle and one of the lake paddle steamers comes in to dock at Montreux.
